July 30 Lobster Boat at Sunrise

July 30 Lobster Boat at Sunrise, originally uploaded by NedraI.

Our journey to Maine ends today. We decided to consider this our 30th anniversary celebration even though the big day isn't until December. We had a wonderful trip and i consider it a perfect gift to ourselves. Our visit ended by getting up at 4:30 and heading to Cape Elizabeth, which is where we started our visit the first night eating lobster. This morning we had the rocky beach all to ourselves as we settled in with our cameras ready to capture the beauty of the sunrise. We were there almost two hours but to me it felt like 20 minutes. I could have spent another two hours just sitting on the rocks. I love listening to the waves crash and watching the birds and boats pass by. It's the most relaxing thing in the world to me. I did take a video so I can relive the moment when needed. I'm already looking forward to a return visit.

Turn the tables and make a photograph of a light source today. Light bulb, window, or even the sun (be careful!).
I tried some night photography in Portland. Not easy without a tripod. However, this one turned out pretty good.

July 29 Welcome Sign at the Star Light

We found two great places for breakfast. This one and The Good Egg in Portland-I didn't take any pictures of that one-gasp!

Both were funky places with great food. I had french toast made with molasses oatmeal bread and real maple syrup at The Good Egg.

When we walked in here we missed the sign but it didn't take long for someone behind the counter to tell us the drill. Grab a coffee and a menu and have a seat. When we knew what we wanted to eat come up and order and they'd bring us the food. When we were done be sure to bus your own table.

It was a fun place with lots to look at with antiques stuck here and there and each table had different salt and pepper shakers. I would definitely go there again.

July 28 Fort Popham

We had another great day in Maine. We hung out in Portland for part of the day taking pictures on the docks and the tour boat. We had chowder at our favorite spot and then headed up the coast. We stopped for a bit in Freeport and then continued onto Bath. After we checked in we headed down the fingerlings. The first was a dead end but the second took us to Fort Popham. We had fun exploring this old fort. Afterwards we wandered down to the water for awhile. Once darkness settled in we went to the only restaurant we had seen and it was right by the fort. We sat next to a big screened window and felt the cool ocean breezes as we ate another great seafood meal.

The world is always in motion. Make a photo that conveys a bit of your own motion to your viewer.

We cruised Casco Bay on a tour boat this afternoon. It was a beautiful day to be out on the water and we learned many interesting facts about the area.

My daughter gave us money for a lobster dinner for our birthdays. Here it is! Yum! This is at my favorite place-The Lobster Shack. You order and then sit outside overlooking the ocean to eat.
