Daily Shoot Beauty

Daily Shoot Beauty, originally uploaded by NedraI.

Celebrate the pretty things in life. Make a photograph of the most beautiful thing you see today.

See that blue sky? That was the most beautiful thing I saw today! Central NY has had many days of light snow and gray skies this past month so the sun and blue skies were a welcome change today.

Daily Shoot Monochromatic

Daily Shoot Monochromatic, originally uploaded by NedraI.

Take color out of the equation and make a monochromatic photograph today.

I tried for monocromatic without any computer adjustments.

This is a farm I drive by daily on my way to work. We had an hour delay due to snow so it was a very pretty drive to work.

Daily Shoot Path

Daily Shoot Path, originally uploaded by NedraI.

Make a photograph featuring a path, road, or trail that leads the eye through the photograph.

I saw this path the other day but not in time to stop and take a picture. So today I went back on this road again and stopped. This is a snowmobile trail and I wonder what it's like. Do the trees keep going or does it empty out into a field? I'm not a snowmobiler so I won't find out.

January 20 Baby Shoes

January 20 Baby Shoes, originally uploaded by NedraI.

I dug through the cedar chest yesterday. I haven't done that in years. I was surprised to find 4 more pairs of baby shoes. I decided to pull out this quilt I made for our son and use it as the backdrop. I have a book standing up in the back and some CD cases underneath so I could try for a little different view today. I think I have one more shoe shot, I just have to find the shoes out in the garage. Then on to something different.

Daily Shoot Triangle

Daily Shoot Triangle, originally uploaded by NedraI.

Make a photograph with a triangular composition.

I need to start using my macro lens + extension tubes so I'm more comfortable with them the next time it snows. Next time I play I need to have a journal so I can write down which tubes I was using so I can compare results.

Daily Shoot Soft

Daily Shoot Soft, originally uploaded by NedraI.

Make a photograph with a soft look today.

This is The Wooden Doll. Somewhere I have a book that goes along with the her. I used the lights in my new corner studio. I turned off the overhead lights and just used one light on dim bouncing off an umbrella to try and achieve the soft look.

January 17 First Chuck Taylors

January 17 First Chuck Taylors, originally uploaded by NedraI.

Back to the shoe theme today. Once upon a time these shoes were bright yellow and they were our son's first pair of Chuck Taylor's. My husband had worn Chuck Taylor's in high school. After our son outgrew these shoes they hung from the rear view mirror in my husband's vehicle for many many years. Now, they hang in the garage.

Daily Shoot-Blue

Daily Shoot-Blue, originally uploaded by NedraI.

Today's theme is blue. Make a photograph dominated by the color or that otherwise illustrates the theme.

Yesterday I bought two small tiles-one black and one blue. It worked out perfect for today's theme. I wish I had gotten some better shots but most were pretty blurry. Part due to the wind, part due to camera shake part due to my learning how to use the extension tubes connected to the macro lens. I'll keep working on it and hope for crisper shots on another day.

Daily Shoot-Tag

Daily Shoot-Tag, originally uploaded by NedraI.

Illustrate one of the various meanings of the word tag today in a photograph.

Usually I check tags on sweaters, especially from a company called Woolrich, for their fabric content. I hate wool, it makes me itch no matter how small the amount. However, I forgot to check this one. Luckily, the small amount of wool does not bother me in the this sweater.I am surprised but grateful that I don't have to make a return.

January 13 Boots

January 13 Boots, originally uploaded by NedraI.

Now that my daughter is in college she decided a pair of boots might be a good idea for Christmas. She has some long hikes across a hilly campus. No Uggs or girly boots for my daughter. She went with a pair of Timberlands. Her brother has a similar pair and he even oiled them up with Mink oil for her. I like how she changed up the laces with hockey laces.

Daily Shoot Shiny

Daily Shoot Shiny, originally uploaded by NedraI.

Make a photograph of something shiny or glossy, but not transparent. Emphasize the effect of the surface.

After hurting my back a week ago I can finally move enough tonight to take pictures!

Both of our children are hockey players and as a result we have a rink in our backyard. These skates are about 10 years old and were first worn by our son and then our daughter. They both wore them for state championship games in which both their teams won. We've offered to buy our daughter new skates but she refuses to part with these well loved and broken in skates.

Contrast

Contrast, originally uploaded by NedraI.

I took a long slow walk around the block today. This was my runner up for the high contrast assignment for the Daily Shoot. The pole marks the hydrant for the fire department in case the snow gets deep.

Daily Shoot High Contrast

Daily Shoot High Contrast, originally uploaded by NedraI.

Go high contrast today and make a photograph with tons of pop. Do as much in-camera as possible.

I took a couple of pictures as I hobbled around the block with a sore back today. It was another pretty day.

Daily Shoot Mundane

Daily Shoot Mundane, originally uploaded by NedraI.

Make an interesting photograph of something mundane and ordinary today.
Thanks to a dr appointment I had a chance to get out and shoot some photos on this beautiful snowy morning. I just held the camera near the ground and shot this picture. I'm pleased with the way it turned out.

Snowy Tree

I went out for a walk this morning to enjoy the blue skies and the fresh snowfall. I found myself thankful I had a dr. appointment later in the morning that allowed this treat. Unfortunately right after I got home I bent the wrong way and put my back out in a major way. So, I'm taking a break in my footwear theme until I'm feeling a little better.

Jan. 4 Baby Shoes

Jan. 4 Baby Shoes, originally uploaded by NedraI.

Day 3 of Footwear
These were my baby shoes. In my opinion these are much nicer than the shoes that are bronzed. However, you'll be seeing bronzed ones as well as a part of this series.

Just a quick shot today. A few of the icons on the new phone.

Jan. 3 Wooden Shoes

Jan. 3 Wooden Shoes, originally uploaded by NedraI.

The second in my series of footwear.
I think these shoes actually belong to my sister or brother but some how I ended up with them. I'm not sure of the story behind them. I think perhaps one of my Aunt's brought them back from Europe where they served as nurses during WWII. I'll have to ask my mom or sister for more details.

Fungi Texture Runner Up

Daily Shoot Texture

Daily Shoot Texture, originally uploaded by NedraI.

Find an interesting texture today and make a photograph.

I was too late for the gym today so I headed for a nature trail and did a 4 mile walk instead. I debated about taking my camera since I knew it would slow me down. In the end I took my longer lens in case I saw some birds. I only saw one bird but I did see lots of nests and this hornet's nest. (If it's not a hornet's nest let me know!) I got a good walk in and didn't let the picture taking slow me down too much.

Mad Elf

Mad Elf, originally uploaded by NedraI.

Last year I bought a 6 pack of Mad Elf at the grocery store. I loved it. When I went back to buy another 6 pack I discovered it was the most expensive 6 pack I had ever bought, I just hadn't paid attention to the price the first time. I'm glad I didn't or I would have never tasted it. My husband gave me this for Christmas. It's the first item I shot in my new photo corner. Not too exciting but I had to start somewhere! Now I can get it in the fridge and enjoy it soon.

Daily Shoot New Goal

Daily Shoot New Goal, originally uploaded by NedraI.

Make a photo illustrating a fresh start, a new beginning, or the first step to a goal.

I asked my husband if we could clean out a corner of the basement to set up the studio lights he bought years ago but that are rarely used. It turned into a major project, especially for my husband. We emptied shelves of legos, games, Game Boys, Nintendo and other treasures. Some went in the garbage, some went into bins and then to the garage attic. A few years ago we had a leak and he had taken out part of the wall but with the shelves you really didn't notice but now it was noticeable so he added the wanes-coating, I think that's what it's called, to cover up the hole. He ended up doing some other cleaning and rearranging down there as well. So now I have a corner to set things up to photograph. He found the table in the garage attic. I had attempted to strip it probably 20 years ago and given up. It will work well for holding objects and I grabbed a bunch of old lace linens to lay on top of it. I have some ideas for a back drop. So, my new goal for the year is learning about lighting and getting this corner set up was my first step.

I've been neglecting this blog after I got so far behind that I didn't think I could get caught up. So with a new year will come a new start to the blog and if I get behind this year my goal is to say oh well and just pick it back up and keep going and not worry about adding everything I missed.
